About For Pool

Pool balls come as a set of 15 numbered balls plus a cue ball, 57.2 mm (2 1/4 inches) across, each weighing about 170 grams. Balls 1–8 are solids, 9–15 are stripes and the eight is black — the same set covers eight-ball, nine-ball and ten-ball.

Material decides lifespan. Phenolic resin (Aramith, Duramith, Cyclop) keeps its colour and edges for years; the polyester in supermarket sets goes dull after a few months of regular play. The series run from Aramith Premier for home and club tables, through Tournament TV Pro in broadcast colours, to Super Pro and Duramith for tables that never rest. Watch out for English pool (blackball) — those balls are 50.8 mm and do not mix with American ones. You will also need a pool table and a rack; the other sizes are in billiard balls.
