About Triangles and Racks

Racks and rack templates do one job: make the balls in the pack touch each other. A loose rack means a weak break and a random spread, no matter how hard you hit it.

A wooden or plastic triangle is the basic version for eight-ball and nine-ball; over time it warps and stops closing. An aluminium triangle keeps its shape for years. A diamond rack is for nine-ball, while a paper or silicone template — the magic rack — sets the balls perfectly frozen and is now the standard in nine- and ten-ball events. Size has to match the balls: 57.2 mm in pool, 52.5 mm in snooker. You will also want billiard balls and spot markers. The whole section is billiard accessories, and tables are in billiard tables.
