Frequently Asked Questions
Which billiard balls should I buy?
The global standard is Aramith (Belgian phenolic-resin balls). Models: Aramith Premier (entry, ~$100–150 pool set), Aramith Tournament TV Pro (yellow stripes for TV, $180–230), Aramith Super Aramith Pro (tournament, $230–330), Duramith (harder resin, $400+). For snooker: Aramith 1G or Super Crystalate.
Pool balls vs snooker balls — what is the difference?
Pool balls: 15 numbered (1–15) + cue ball, 2 1/4" (57.2 mm) diameter, 170 g each. Snooker balls: 15 reds + 6 colours (yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, black) + cue, 2 1/16" (52.5 mm), 142 g. Carom: 3 balls (2 white + red), 61.5 mm. Pool balls do NOT work on a snooker table and vice versa.
How much does an Aramith ball set cost?
Aramith Premier (basic pool): $100–150. Aramith Tournament TV Pro: $180–230. Aramith Super Pro (full tournament): $230–380. Duramith (pro tour, harder shell): $380–650. Snooker Aramith 1G: $300–450 (22-ball set). Carom Aramith: $130–200 for 3 balls.
How to care for billiard balls?
Phenolic balls (Aramith, Duramith) are very durable but need cleaning — chalk and hand oils stick and cause skidding on cloth. Clean with Aramith Ball Cleaner or Ball Restorer (soft cloth, no abrasives). Frequency: tournament every 100–200 games, home every 3–6 months. Cue ball especially — it collects chalk fastest.
