Frequently Asked Questions
Which billiard chalk is best?
Master Chalk (green) has been the standard for 100 years — cheap and reliable. Kamui is premium (SS, 0.98, 1.21) — better tip-to-ball grip, popular with pros. Tweeten Chalk (BlueDiamond, Silver Cup, Predator 1080) offer similar feel. Price: Master $1–2, Kamui SS $15–25. Consistency > brand — pick what suits your stroke.
What is a cue tip and which one to choose?
The tip (leather) at the cue end contacts the ball. Hardness: soft (more spin, wears faster — Kamui Black), medium (universal — Kamui Clear, Le Pro), hard (harder, faster break — Elk Master H, Kamui Original hard). Diameter: 11.75 mm (snooker), 12–13 mm (pool). Replace every 6–18 months with regular play — service is $15–40 depending on the tip.
What is the difference between a bridge and a case?
A bridge is a long stick with an X, Y or V head to rest the main cue on when the ball is too far/high. Standards: straight bridge (spider for snooker, standard for pool). Cases differ by material (leather vs vinyl vs nylon) and compartments (2×5, 3×6, 4×8 = butts × shafts). Hard case protects better in travel, soft case is lighter for the club.
