Butts

Pool cue butts are sold separately because more and more players build a cue from two independently bought halves: the butt for the grip hand and the shaft for the hit itself. Joint compatibility matters most — you will meet Uni-Loc, radial, 3/8×10 and 5/16×14 — because a shaft with a different pin simply will not screw in. Check it before buying; the pins themselves are in the joints section.

The second thing is weight and balance. A butt usually weighs 10–12 oz and decides whether the cue is front- or rear-heavy; on many models the bumper weight can be swapped. Wraps come in Irish linen (absorbs sweat), leather, or none at all — a matter of taste and how much your hands sweat. BidBil lists butts by Predator, Mezz, Longoni and Polish makers, new and used.
