What decides the price of a table

The price of a billiard table depends on four things: the bed (slate or MDF), the size, the brand, and whether the table is new or used. Everything else, including cloth colour, the wood of the frame and the leg design, changes the price by ten to twenty percent. The bed changes it several times over. So the first question for every listing is: slate or MDF.

The prices in this text are indicative for the Polish market in 2026 and come from shop offers and classified listings. Treat them as ranges, not a price list.

MDF-bed tables: 350–1150 EUR

A table with an MDF bed (high-density fibreboard) is the cheapest way to have billiards at home. New 6ft and 7ft MDF tables cost 350–800 EUR, and 8ft models 700–1150 EUR. They weigh 100–200 kg, so two people can move and set one up without a technician.

There is one drawback, but it is fundamental: MDF reacts to humidity and temperature. After a year or two the bed may bulge or sag slightly, and the ball starts to curve at the end of its path. For recreational family play that is acceptable. For learning the game and training it is not, because you learn to compensate for the table's errors instead of your own.

MDF tables rarely reach the second-hand market for more than 30–40% of the new price, because buyers rightly fear the state of the bed after years.

Slate-bed 7ft tables: 1050–3500 EUR

A slate bed 19–25 mm thick is the standard in every table played on seriously. It does not deform, does not react to humidity and, when properly levelled, gives a perfectly straight ball path for decades.

A new 7ft slate table starts at about 1050–1400 EUR for models imported from China under Polish and European brands (Dynamic, Buffalo, Riley, WIK in the lower ranges). 7ft tables with better finish, solid wood and K-66 cushions cost 1850–3500 EUR. Rasson Ox and Mars, Dynamic Triumph and the Brunswick Gold Crown in 7ft are the top of this group.

A used 7ft slate table costs 600–1600 EUR, depending on cloth, cushions and age. It is the best ratio of price to capability for a home: it fits in a 3.9 × 4.9 m room and you can play seriously on it.

8ft and 9ft tables: 1400–16000 EUR

A new 8ft slate table costs 1400–4650 EUR. The lower part of the range is imported models, the upper part WIK Piramida, Dynamic II, Rasson and Brunswick Contender. On the Polish market 8ft is the most common size in clubs and the most common used size in listings, because it is the eights that come out of closing venues.

A 9ft tournament table starts at 2100–2800 EUR for the Dynamic III and Rasson Victory, and ends at 9300–16000 EUR for a Diamond ProAm, Brunswick Gold Crown VI and Rasson Ox with full equipment. Diamond and Brunswick Gold Crown are the tables of the US Open and world championships, bought mainly by clubs and players training for competition.

Used 8ft slate tables are 950–2800 EUR, and 9ft 1400–5800 EUR. A table from a club after 5–10 years usually has worn cloth and cushions to replace, which should be added to the price.

Snooker tables: 1850–21000 EUR

A 12ft slate snooker table (five sections, over 1000 kg in total) costs 5800–21000 EUR new. Riley, BCE and Rasson are the tournament brands. Compact 10ft tables are 2800–8100 EUR, and 8ft "snooker" tables with slate 1850–4200 EUR.

The second-hand market for snooker tables in Poland is small, but the bargains are exceptional: a 12ft table from a closing club is sometimes sold for 1850–4650 EUR, a fraction of the new price. Disassembly, transport and installation of such a table by a technician cost 700–1400 EUR and must be added straight away. Listings are in the snooker tables category.

Hidden costs: transport, installation, cloth

A slate table weighs 300–900 kg, so moving it yourself ends with a cracked bed or a damaged frame. Transport and installation of a 7ft–9ft table by a service company cost 230–700 EUR within one region, more when carrying it upstairs. With a used table, add disassembly at the seller's, another 120–350 EUR.

Recloathing costs 190–470 EUR with material, depending on size and cloth grade (Simonis 860 and Strachan 6811 are more expensive than woollen cloths). Replacing cushion rubber is 190–350 EUR. Levelling after installation 50–95 EUR. The table also needs balls (90–350 EUR for a phenolic set, covered in the text on billiard balls), cues, a rack and lighting (120–700 EUR).

A realistic budget for a used 8ft slate table in good condition is therefore 1400–2300 EUR for the table plus 470–950 EUR for transport, installation and minor work. For a new mid-range 8ft table, 2800–4650 EUR plus 350–700 EUR for delivery and installation.

How to read a listing

Sellers of used tables rarely state bed thickness and cushion brand. Ask four things: year of manufacture, thickness and number of slate sections, cloth condition (when replaced) and whether the table has ever been moved. A table that has stood in one place for 10 years with one cloth is a safer purchase than a table moved three times.

Ask for a photo of the bed from underneath, if possible, and a close-up of the cushion edge. A cracked bed and crumbling cushion rubber are two faults invisible in a photo of the whole table.

Frequently asked questions

Is a table from China worse than a European one? It depends on the series, not the country. Rasson is a Chinese brand that world championships are played on. Cheap imported tables differ from expensive ones in bed thickness (19 mm instead of 25 mm), cushion rubber quality and wood finish, not in origin itself. Ask about specifications, not the country.

What does a table cost to maintain per year? With home play practically nothing beyond chalk and cleaning: cloth lasts 5–10 years, cushions 10–15. In a club the cloth is replaced every 1–2 years (190–470 EUR) and the cushion rubber every 5–8 years.

Can I negotiate the price of a used table? Usually yes, especially with tables from closing venues, where the seller has a move-out deadline. Your argument is the transport and disassembly cost, which you bear. A table that has to be gone within a week sells for 60–70% of the asking price.

Does a 3-in-1 table (billiards, table tennis, dining) make sense? For entertainment yes, for play no. Such tables have an MDF bed, weaker cushions and smaller sizes (usually 6–7ft). Buy them as furniture with billiards, not as a billiard table.

Is a 7ft table suitable for practice? Yes, if it has a slate bed. Many amateur leagues in the USA play on 7ft tables, and playing on a smaller table teaches cue-ball control. To prepare for 9ft tournaments it is better to practise on 8ft or 9ft, but a 7ft slate table beats an 8ft MDF one.
