About Jump Cues
A jump cue is short (40–41 inches), light (8–10 oz) and has a hard tip, so the cue ball bounces off the slate and hops over a blocking ball. Listings are dominated by Predator Air 2 and Air Rush, Mezz Zero-J, Jacoby, Dufferin and cheaper cues from Asia. Some sets are break-jump cues, where the jump cue is part of the break cue.
A jump cue makes sense only at a level where opponents play safeties, meaning league and 9-ball and 10-ball tournaments. To learn jumping a used Dufferin for 35–60 EUR is enough, for tournaments a Predator Air 2 or Mezz Zero-J. See also break cues and all billiard cues.
